What does BREXIT mean for the Erasmus Programme?
The United Kingdom left the European Union on 31 January 2020, and also the EU Customs Union on 1 January 2021. As a result, in case of Great Britain (England, Scotland, Wales), the rules for entry and departure have changed, which has also affected mobility programmes (Erasmus, Foreign Language Learning Programme – in Hungarian: KNYP).
What exactly does this mean for the future? Can we travel to the United Kingdom with Erasmus programme? Do we have the opportunity to travel with Foreign Language Learning Programme to the UK? If so, how?

ERASMUS:
- The United Kingdom is no longer participating in the new Erasmus+ and European Solidarity Corps programme as a programme country.
- Those who received support from 2014-2020 period, have the possibility to implement their project, but they must consider the changed conditions of entering the territory of the UK.
- From 2021, the British will have their own student mobility programme: the Turing programme, allowing nearly 35,000 British students to travel abroad in the higher education, vocational training, and public education sectors.
- Simon Harris - the Government of Ireland's Minister for Higher Education - announced in a statement that Northern Ireland will continue participating in Erasmus programmes.
FOREIGN LANGUAGE LEARNING PROGRAMME (KNYP):
- The United Kingdom will be a destination country in the Programme. However, similarly to the Erasmus programme, changing entry conditions should be considered while organizing the mobilities.
- As before, destination countries of the KNYP remain the United Kingdom, Ireland, Malta, Germany, Austria, and France.
